Sneak Peek
The Dell Vostro is very well packed in a brown box with the logo of Dell. The first impression that you will get about this laptop is of a having a delicate piece in your hands. The note book is protectively kept surrounded by 1" thick Styrofoam. After opening the device you will fall in love with this 14.1" screen business notebook. With the introduction of this notebook Dell is targeting the small business group.

Design
Starting from the top, the screen comes with a 1280 x 1024 WXGA display with TrueLife. There is minor light leakage around the edges but that can be ignored. You get to see it only if you are precisely looking out for it. The screening angles on the Vostro 1400 are good from left to right. But if you look from the top, the screen looks dark and it is hard to make out anything. One thing good here is that the backlight is very bright.

Cutting Edge Technology
At the top of the screen you can easily spot the webcam. The webcam is more than the value of money you spend on buying the laptop. The pictures taken from the webcam are good if they are taken in close-ups. But while taking pictures of landscapes, it doesn't do that well. The camera can capture images at resolutions up to 3200 x 2400. For the video recording, the 2 megapixel camera records up to 1600 x 1200 resolutions at very low FPS. Video quality at this resolution becomes very hazy when there is movement. The video does reasonably well at 640 x 480, and very well at 320 x 240. When using the webcam over an instant messaging client, you can select for the camera to use face tracking. With face tracking it will actually zoom into your face and pan in and out as you move. The webcam also comes with a blue LED display light, that tells you when your webcam is on the go.

Core Information
The Vostro 1400 sports two digital microphones which could be found in the top trim of the screen, on both the left and right side of the webcam. Both microphones capture audio very well. The speakers are placed above the keyboard on either side. Though being small, the speakers do an average job while on its maximum volume. The quality of the speakers is just average.

Conclusion
The Vostro 1400 comes with 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery. One thing to note over here is that it might not snap in very well. Otherwise there are no issues with the laptop.
