Pros : Lots of options, ease of use

Cons : Lack of Image Stablizing

We bought this yesterday to replace the cheap-o DC we've had for a while, and I love it already. The options available are deep, but the manual covers all of them in detail, which makes this a user-friendly device. The lack of an image stablizer is a bit annoying, but they make tripods for a reason lol. Solid 9/10.

Pros : Great pics

Cons : not durable at all! EASILY damaged

I am practicallly an advertisement for the A620 version of this camera! I LOVE it! I treated myself to the upgrade and was horrified when my camera broke after only a minor fall. After only two weeks, my camera is at the Canon repair center. I am horribly disappointed in the durability of this camera! My A620 was SO very durable and this camera is super delicate at best. You can tell the case is lightweight. Be VERY careful! I have a two year old so durability is essential.

Pros : full manual control

Cons : poor LCD, bad focusing in macro mode

I got this camera as an upgrade from the Powershot A95. The first thing I noticed is that the quality of the LCD screen is not as good as my previous camera. While it is bigger, it is also more grainy and not so good under bright sunlight. Another thing that disappointed me is the difficulty to focus in macro mode. You can get 1cm close to the subject, which is great, but too often the picture appears ok on the screen but turns up put of focus when viewed on a computer. Compared to this, the A95 was so much more reliable. On the positive side, batteries last longer, shutter lag is shorter, it has a 4x zoom instead of the 3x, and while shooting movies, you can actually zoom in and out, something you couldn't do with the A95. If I didn't have other cameras to compare it to, I would have probably given it a 9/10. The swivel screen is a great thing and so useful in many occasions. I love the AA batteries, I have 2 sets of rechargeable ones and if I ever need more, they're so easy to find anywhere. On the whole for its price it is a great camera for a beginner who wants to start taking photography more 'seriously' and wants full manual control, something many other compact cameras seem to lack.

I really like this camera. It has many features of my larger and bulkier digital SLR. I like the stitching mode. The picture quality is very good. Night shots at low light performance is admirable. It is not exactly a "slim" type camera but does fit into your pocket. It servs well as camera for the starter (my wife) in the "auto" mode, or for the more experienced in the sp, or ap mode. The details in 11 by 8 prints are excellent. I am very happy with this buy.

Canon A-630 is a winner
User Boski - Post Date :11/12/2008

Pros : Flip-out screen, long battery life, Great photos, Fast turn-on.

Cons : 4-AA batteries makes it heavier than most.

Before buying the A630, I had the 4-megapixel Canon A80 for three years. Loved the camera, but it takes poor pictures in low indoor light settings and the 1" screen is small and dim. The A630 fixes both of those issues. The super-large 2.5" screen is huge and bright. Also the CCD is more sensitive and takes great indoor pictures on either "Auto" mode, or using the "High ISO" setting in Program mode. Many manufacturers have cameras that take great shots. I like the Canon for two reasons. First the flip screen protects the LCD when not in use, and allows you to lift the camera over your head or around a corner and sill see the image. Second the 4-AA batteries allow you to take hundreds of pictures all day on a single set.

This is one of those nice cameras that's so well done, it's easier to talk about what the camera ISN'T, rather than what it IS! This camera is not a small, shirt pocket camera, and might be a bit bigger than a woman would wish to carry in a purse. It's not a super-tele camera, but it does have a respectable, bit longer than average 4x optical zoom.
