Optical Viewfinder
Meaning: A Non-electronic device used to view the image that is being shot is known as Optical Viewfinder. Optical Viewfinders on compact dameras do not show exactly what is being shot because they are independent of the lens. The Optical Viewfinders on SLR Cameras show exactly what is being shot because they are aimed through the lens. How it functions: The Small Window generally located at the top of the camera is the optical viewfinder. Look through the Optical Viewfinder to compose yuor shot, what you see framed there is what the camera will capture. Optical viewfinders are handy for the following reason: LCD screens are hard to see in bright light, so composing your shot is hard. Advantages: Using the Optical viewfinder and turning off the LCD Screen will make your batteries last considerably longer.

Colour Filter
Meaning: Colour Filter is a software that modifies digital images by altering the values or arrangement of selected image pixels. How it Functions: A Colour filter is an optical attachment placed on the front of the lens. It is used to correct color or enhance an image by absorbing parts of the visible light spectrum or create special special effects through prisms and other optical enhancements. Advantages: It enhances the quality of the images taken and gives better images.
Aperture (f/stops)
Meaning: Aperture is the opening in a lens which passes to the image sensor to create an image. How it Functions: Aperture size is usually calibrated in f-stops. The higher the f numberthe smaller is the aperture. The common f-stops are f/2, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8 etc. Advantages: The Quality of the image depends upon the aperture range and shutter speed of the camera. The larger the f number, the smaller the lens opening and hence less light will enter into the camera.
F3.3 - 5.1
Shutter Speed (Seconds)
Meaning: Shutter priority is an exposure mode that lets you select the desired shutter speed. Shutter Speed is measured in seconds. It is the time for which the camera exposes the sensor to the light being let in by the aperture setting. How it functions: A Shutter consists of blade, a curtain, plate, or some other movable cover in a camera that controls the time during which light reaches the sensor. Many point and shoot cameras have fixed shutter speeds. Single Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras offer a greater control over the shutter speed. If you use a very slow shutter speed (about 1/8 sec) you will not be able to hold the camera in you hand and shoot the subject clearly. The Image thus obtained will get blurred.

How it functions: CCD is the most common form of photosensitive cells used to convert incoming light into electrical signals in Digital cameras. In their normal condition these are greyscale devices. To create colour, a colour pattern is laid down on the sensor pixels, using RGBG color mask. (Red, Green, Blue and Green).
Advantages: A digital image sensor converts light into electrical signals, which are then converted into an video inside the camcorder using the Camcorder video processor."

Advantages: It is useful for taking close-ups flowers, insects and other small subjects.
Metering
Multi Metering
Meaning: Multi Metering means when the camera measures the light intensify in several points in the scene, and then combines the result to find the settings for the best exposure. How it fuctions: This makes it possible to capture the image with the right exposure when the whole subject bright. Advantages: Multi Metering averages the exposure of the entire frame which is to be captured.
Centre Weighted Metering
Meaning: Centre Weighted Metering measures the brightness of the light at the centre of the frame, as well as around the centre, to calculate the correct exposurefor the image. How it fuctions: This makes it possible to capture the image with the right exposure even when the subject at the centre is bright and the background is dark. Advantages: Centered Weighted Metering averages the exposure of the entire frame but gives extra weight to the object in the centre and is ideal for taking portraits.
Spot Metering
Meaning: Spot Metering measures a narrow zone at the center to determine the exposure level. How it fuctions: This is useful for highlighting the subject and enhancing the visual impact, and also for capturing the details in a highlighted section. Advantages: Spot Metering allows only a small area of the whole frame to be metered and the exposure of the rest of the frame is ignored. It is the most useful for backlit, macro and moon shots.

Expert Reviews
Expert Rating : Very Good
Layman’s camera
When an common man goes to buy a camera he looks for something that is affordable, quick and easy to use, and which can produce good pictures with virtually no effort at all. Nikon is targeting that common mass with its latest L (for Lifestyle) series models, the CoolPix L20.
Design
The L20 is available in black or metallic red. The L20 is quite a large camera by compact standards. The camera has a plastic body, but is built to Nikon's usual high standard and is beautifully finished. The body shape is nice and easy to hold, with a sculpted front panel that provides a good finger grip, and a shaped and textured thumb grip on the back. The controls are very simple, with large single-function buttons. The big 3.0-inch monitor screen has a sharp resolution, is nice and bright with a good anti-glare surface.
Key features
The CoolPix L20 is a typical point-and shoot compact camera where most of the functions are taken care of by the camera. It has a basic shooting mode that handles all the operations. Exposure, AF mode, face detection, red-eye correction, even ISO setting are all handled automatically. Other than that it has 15 scene modes. You get 6 white balance options with an auto mode. It has a basic shake reduction technique. A macro mode is quite useful for taking close ups of small objects. When we have a look at the image features it is fairly equipped with a 10 megapixel CCD sensor and a 3.6x zoom lens. You can rest assured that you will get well defined crisp pictures fit for large printouts. The camera is powered by two AA batteries.
Verdict
For a budget point-and-click camera the L20 actually performs reasonably well. It is incredibly simple to use, and will produce good quality pictures under a wide range of circumstances with a minimum of user input. It is well made, easy to handle and even look good. It won't suit more experienced photographers, but for anyone looking for a simple point-and-shoot it is excellent.
Finally I got for what I'm looking, I'm not a professional user, I need the camera for the occassional photography sometimes to capture momerable moments in life, some functions and few parties in a year and offcourse outdoor photography while on vaccations, i found it serves the purpose of all my requirements, very easy to use features, it also given me the excellent results of the movie mode even in indoor conditions in night with normal lighting. It is the best camera in its class (10 Megapixels) with the features ...and the LCD size is too good........it is a pleaseure even watching the preview on the camera.
I researched alot of cameras to get just what I wanted. This is definitely it. The price was great. I got everything I wanted on it(smile, red eye, motion stabilizer etc.)We took pictures of fireworks and a video of them and it turned out fantastic! It is very easy to use. Make sure you get a card,as the camera itself only holds 10 pictures. I would recommend this camera to everyone.
